AD Ports Group and Hutchison Ports have formed a MoU to identify joint investment and business opportunities in the sectors of catering, logistics and port operations across the GCC, Africa and Asia.

In addition, the two organisations will form a partnership to operate in Tanzania. The port operators aim to strengthen the capabilities and competitiveness of port businesses across the East African country, including the Port of Dar Es Salaam.

“As a starting point, we will work together to strengthen and highlight the position of the Tanzanian port as a global trade hub. AD Ports Group will advance plans to develop and implement an innovative logistics, transport and digital port management system, as well as invest in the development of new infrastructure such as logistics centers and new inland container depots around Dar Es Salaam Port,” said captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, managing director & CEO of AD Ports Group.

Potential areas of focus include improving service to several of Tanzania’s remote areas and neighboring countries, cultivating more cargo sources, and improving existing logistics and cargo handling support facilities, according to the agreement.

“Having operated in Tanzania since 2001, we are very committed to this market and its great potential. With strong support from local partners and the addition of AD Ports Group, this new partnership is sure to be greater than the sum of its parts,” noted Eric Ip, CEO of Hutchison Ports Group. “Together, we look forward to working closely with the Tanzania Ports Authority to further develop Tanzania International Container Services as we strive to ensure that Dar Es Salaam Port remains the leading gateway in the East African region,” he added.
