The Adani Group has come up with a big green hydrogen production project near Vizhinjam port. The target is to produce 1100 kilotons of green hydrogen in three phases. It will be fully exported abroad. The Adani Group will invest Rs 26,400 crores in the project. 5000 people will get employment directly and 18000 people indirectly. The state will generate huge revenue through the port and as taxes. The project will shortly begin after approvals are obtained. The production capacity will be increased initially by 100 kilotons of green hydrogen per year and then by 500 kilotons every three years.

14,000 million units of electricity will be required every year to run the green hydrogen plant. For this, a 6 GW capacity solar plant will be constructed at Vizhinjam. In addition, 50 million water will be required. A seawater treatment plant will also be established for that. The construction cost of these plants does not come under the project cost of Rs 26,400 crore. The project will come up under Adani New Industries, a subsidiary of the Adani Group. Adani New Industries operates Adani Group’s solar, wind, plants and associated manufacturing factories. Adani New Industries aims to produce 10 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. By establishing the green hydrogen production project in Vizhinjam, the Adani Group intends to utilize the potential of Vizhinjam port to export green hydrogen.

Will be able to reduce fossil fuel import

The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen in the country by 2030 and thereby reduce fossil fuel imports of Rs 1 lakh crore. With the development of technology and by combining efficient means of production, a kilo of hydrogen can be obtained for less than a dollar. That means green hydrogen can be a viable alternative to petroleum-based fuels.Green hydrogen

Green hydrogen is the fuel of the future. The production of hydrogen without carbon is called green hydrogen. Hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water using electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Green hydrogen could replace fossil fuels to reduce carbon emissions in industries such as steel, refineries and fertilizers, and in the transportation and energy sectors.
