The Honorary Doctorate acknowledges his remarkable achievements in business. At the 13th Annual Convocation Ceremony held on November 4, 2023 at KSHEMA Campus, NITTE Grounds, Sri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, NITTE conferred the degree upon Mr. Shetty.
NITTE has recognized Mr. Shetty, a visionary leader, for his journey of three decades which has put India on the map of international supply chain and logistics services, thus facilitating trade within India and across the globe.
On receiving the Honorary Doctorate, Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Founder and Chairman, Allcargo Group said, “I am honoured and humbled to receive the award from NITTE. It has been truly a heart-warming experience for me to have received such an overwhelming reception from the august gathering at the annual convocation. It has been a privilege to interact with the esteemed University faculty and address the bright young graduates from the University.”

As the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIM Mumbai (formerly NITIE), Mr. Shetty has been playing a crucial role in strengthening industry-academia partnerships. He has played a pivotal role in setting up the Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at IIM Mumbai. Guided by his vision to make a larger social impact, Avashya Foundation has been touching lives through a number of social welfare programmes such as general medical camps, eye camps, scholarships for deserving students to continue education, imparting life skills to women, supporting emerging talented sports persons, etc. Under Maitree, one of his dream projects that meets the goals of environment sustainability as well as community empowerment through tree plantations in the tribal regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka so far to benefit over thousands of farmers.
Along with Mr. Shetty, Justice N Santosh Hegde, former judge of Supreme Court and former Lokayukta of Karnataka has also been conferred the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by NITTE for his significant contribution to the society and humankind.
At the 13th annual convocation of NITTE, academic accomplishments of 1,254 individuals from diverse range of programmes were acknowledged and 25 doctoral degree (PhD) awards were conferred.
