- Employees and partners participate in the beach clean-up drive to promote eco-friendly measures under its global sustainability programme Allcargo Greens
Continuing with its mission for a plastic-free and sustainable environment second year in a row, Allcargo Logistics has undertaken a beach clean-up drive at Dadar beach on September 14, 2019 under its global sustainability campaign called Allcargo Greens. Active and enthusiastic participation of Allcargo Logistics employees, its customers and associates made the Dadar beach clean-up drive an inspiring success.
Supported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Beach Warriors, a Mumbai-based NGO which is known for their beach clean-up initiatives at various beaches in Mumbai, the Allcargo Greens Dadar beach clean-up drive saw participants assembling at Dadar beach in the morning on September 14, 2019 and getting on with the beach clean-up mission.
“The beach clean-up drive is a part of our mission to do our bit for a cleaner country and sustainable environment. Through this initiative, we aim to spread the message to work towards a plastic-free, litter-free and pollution-free environment, a cause I strongly feel about. I am extremely happy with the support and encouragement received from our colleagues and the partners in the Dadar beach clean-up drive. Following our Group’s philosophy, we’ll continue with such activities to develop awareness on the values of clean and green surroundings. This is the second year of Allcargo Greens. Through this campaign, we have been committing to the honourable Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision for a plastic-free India and call to shun the use of plastic,” said Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Allcargo Logistics.
Allcargo Greens, in 2018, undertook similar beach clean-up activity at the Juhu beach which witnessed active participation Allcargo Logistics employees and other partners. Allcargo Logistics has been carrying several community engagement programmes under the aegis of Avashya Foundation. Other than environment, the foundation is actively working on 30+ projects in the areas of health, education, women empowerment, sports and disaster relief.
“Our engagement programmes go beyond the donation philosophy. Each of our initiatives are carefully created to involve the beneficiaries in their social and economic transformation. Giving back to the society is everyone’s responsibility, in their own ways. It can start from your home, neighbourhood and community. I want to touch the lives of as many people through Avashya Foundation and set an example of social responsibility towards the society we live in,” said Mrs. Arathi Shetty, Head CSR Committee, Avashya Foundation and Non-Executive Director, Allcargo Logistics.
Children from Light of Life Trust and Saad Foundation – two of Avashya Foundation’s partners, also participated in the Allcargo Green Dadar beach clean-up drive. Equipped with gloves, cleaning tools and unwavering commitment to reclaim the beach, the entire team of Allcargo and partners managed to collect 1000KG of garbage and waste. Most of the trash collected was plastic which is a major cause of pollution and environment deterioration. The purpose of the beach-clean drive this year was to restore the beach after the post Ganesh Chaturthi idol immersion. Early arrival of the high tide did not deter the members
“This is the second year of engagement with Allcargo Logistics. The enthusiasm was commendable and the team collected 1000KGs of garbage. Dadar beach is no less than a heritage in Mumbai and it is sad to see the amount of plastic garbage being dumped into it. The onus of making the beaches of Mumbai clean is a responsibility of every citizen of Mumbai. I am glad at the collaboration we have garnered from people and companies,” said Chinu Kwatra, Founder, Beach Warriors.
