Allcargo Logistics, India’s largest integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions provider, announced that its employees visited KEM hospital in Mumbai and spent a day with the cancer patients to commemorate World Cancer Day.
Involving around 40 children diagnosed with cancer and their parents, the initiative which was organised in collaboration with CanKids NGO and the Haematology Department of KEM Hospital aims to support and encourage those children in their mission to face one of the toughest challenges in life.
KEM visit by the Allcargo Logistics employees is a part of Jeevan Coping with Cancer – an Avashya Foundation initiative in collaboration with B Y L Nair Hospital and KEM Hospital in Mumbai with an objective to provide psychosocial healing to the patients and treatments to underprivileged patients.
During interacting with those children in the hospital, Allcargo employees who are cancer survivors shared their stories with the children and their parents. They urged the children to stay positive and motivated during the treatment and talked about the importance of family support.
“World Cancer Day aims to raise cancer awareness among people. The experience of undergoing cancer treatment can be traumatic, stressful and lonesome not only for the patients but also for their parents and siblings. So, it’s important for all of us to encourage cancer patients with positive thoughts. Through our initiative Jeevan Coping with Cancer, we have been offering encouragement to the cancer patients and addressing the issues of affordability and accessibility of the treatments to underprivileged patients,” says Dr Nilratan Shende, GM-CSR, Allcargo Logistics.
The fun-filled day in the KEM Hospital also saw drawing competition and birthday cake-cutting for the children. Among other, Dr. Milind Nadkar, Dean (Academic) KEM Hospital, Dr Chandrakala S, HoD, Haematology Department were present at the event and in their speech highlighted the importance of the patients support group in helping the patients deal with cancer.
