Amid COVID-19, cargo traffic at major ports nose dives

Amid COVID-19, cargo traffic at major ports nosedived by 20% in the April to June period compared to the same period in the previous year. The 12 major ports handled 141 million tonnes between April and June this year, compared to 177mt handled during the same period in previous year. The New Mangalore port was the only port that reported a 4% rise in cargo handled. Kolkata Dock and Kamarajar Port saw the lowest traffic with a fall out of about 39% for each over 2019. The most imported commodity during this period was POL and coal.
