The modern facilities for the Border Guarding Force (BGF) at the land ports of Agartala and Petrapole were virtually opened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The goal of this program is to improve the operational and welfare capacities of India’s border security forces.

The largest land port in India, Petrapole, is the primary entry point for trade with Bangladesh and is vital to the economic growth of the area. A sizable amount of bilateral trade is facilitated by the port, which benefits both nations’ economies. It is anticipated that the new quarters for BGF staff at Petrapole would increase the efficacy and efficiency of border security at this crucial commercial center.

Similar to this, the Agartala land port in Tripura, which is situated on the border between Bangladesh and India, is a vital conduit for communication and trade between the two nations. It is expected that the port’s improved amenities, including the additional lodging, will increase trade, ease border control, and foster regional economic development.

With an estimated cost of Rs 55 million, the new facilities at both land ports were approved in December 2018. The purpose of these amenities is to enhance the living circumstances of SSB employees. Covering 13,339 square meters, the Petrapole land port has an Officers Block, Subordinate Officers Block, Jawans Block, and a Women’s Block for the Women’s Unit. The Officers Block has a kitchen, eating space, and rest areas, and it can house five officers. While the Jawans Block offers many Jawans better and more sufficient facilities, the Subordinate Officers Block can accommodate 24 personnel.

The accommodations for Border Security Personnel at the Agartala land port cover 8093.7 square meters and contain blocks with all the amenities they need. Eight female Jawans can be housed in the Women’s Block, guaranteeing cozy living arrangements. Five officers can live in the Officers’ Block, which is 659 square meters in size. The four-story Subordinate Officers’ and Jawans’ Block has a dining area, kitchen, and multipurpose hall, and it can accommodate 16 Subordinate Officers and 128 Jawans.

According to Colonel G.S. Sandhu, Project Director of the Land Port Authority of India, “The government’s commitment to providing modern and comfortable living conditions for the security forces who tirelessly protect our borders is aligned with the official inauguration of these accommodation facilities.” “The significance of border management infrastructure in fostering trade and upholding significant international relations is underscored by these residential complexes located at the land ports of Petrapole and Agartala.”
