The government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) intends to build a dedicated coastal highway that will travel through Rushikonda and Bheemili and connect the Vizag port container terminal to NH-16 close to Bhogapuram. Enhancing connection between important infrastructure sites, such as the port and the future greenfield international airport, is the goal of the ₹6,300 crore project.

The state has proposed the construction of a six-lane coastal roadway to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), despite the fact that the project has not yet been incorporated into any Union government programs. In a recent review meeting held in Visakhapatnam, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu went into great depth about the project.

Currently, a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared. The state government has pledged to make major contributions, including paying the ₹1,200 crore cost of purchasing the land. It has asked the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI to distribute the remaining monies. In order to improve logistics and transportation infrastructure, the state would also donate 157 acres of land in Tarluwada for the construction of a multi-modal logistics park (MMLP). By serving as a vital center for the efficient flow of products, the MMLP will enhance connection between the Vizag port, the Bhogapuram airport, and other industrial areas.

The project’s overall estimated cost is ₹6,289 crore, which includes ₹4,315 crore for land acquisition and ₹1,974 crore for civil construction. The planned coastal route will offer radial access to social infrastructure, industrial sectors, tourist destinations, and national highways.

Potential locations for the growth of tourism attractions, logistics centers, and service sectors like travel, healthcare, and education will also be highlighted by the DPR. Along the corridor, it will promote the development of IT parks, port-based economies, urban infrastructure, and public facilities. In order to create new economic prospects for the area, government-owned properties along the Vizag to Bhogapuram route will also be developed with amenities including food courts, playgrounds, and beach resorts.
