[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ashok Leyland will be loading close to 200 trucks on to a vessel here on Friday for transportation to Mongla port in Bangladesh, it is learnt, thereby for the first time exploring coastal shipping for vehicle movement to an important market.
It will thus become the third vehicle manufacturer after Maruti and Hyundai to try out the coastal shipping route.
Transporting by sea is expected to bring down the cost of movement per truck to Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 from the Rs 1 lakh when moved by road.
Currently, the company moves its vehicles by road all the way to Bangladesh, which takes four to five days to the border and then a few more days at the check-posts to complete the formalities before being allowed to cross.
