Indian Railways has introduced a new train service, aimed at the automobile sector, to facilitate transportation of new vehicles across the country. The new freight service, called ‘Auto Express’ will operate between Gurgaon in Haryana to Nidvanda in Karnataka, the state in southern India. The cargo train is India’s first time-tabled automobile freight train and will aid leading automobile manufacturers in the country.
At the moment, around 2000 new cars are shipped from Gurgaon to Nidvanda through regular freight container trains. Auto Express will now bring a surge in those numbers to an estimated 6000 cars a month, owing to its higher speed and scheduled plying routines already in place.
