The Shipping Ministry in Bangladesh numbers among the top ten ministries which have received the largest share of the proposed FY25 budget. The proposed budget has allocated the Shipping Ministry with Tk11,270 crore for FY25, which is Tk3,426 crore more than the revised budget of Tk7,844 crore of the previous FY24. The funding will largely be used to maintain navigability of the rivers and protect them. The central government is focusing on expanding the fleet of dredgers in this regard. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina collected 38 dredgers in the last three terms of her government and more than 35 dredgers have been ordered.
