Bangladesh to modernise Customs stations at ports

The Government of Bangladesh is all set to undertake a project aimed at modernising the major customs stations at Benapole, Chittagong and Dhaka at a cost of Taka 1,686.46 crore.

The Government of Bangladesh is all set to undertake a project aimed at modernising the major customs stations at Benapole, Chittagong and Dhaka at a cost of Taka 1,686.46 crore aiming to meet the challenges of LDC graduation in 2026 even as it aims to improve the efficiency of the customs by cutting cost, time.

Reports maintained this citing the sources in the Planning Commission, as per whom the project will be presented to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at a meeting soon even as the National Board of Revenue (NBR) reportedly believes the project will reduce the time and cost of handling imports and exports at the port by improving customs infrastructure and increasing officials’ efficiencies.

The reports further added the World Bank will provide around 87 per cent of the money as a loan for the Customs Modernisation and Infrastructure Development project.
