An ambitious proposal to build a Bengaluru region industrial rail corridor to integrate many industrial hubs located on the periphery of the city and nearby districts has been gathering dust for over five years.

Tumakuru MP GS Basavaraj recently took up the issue with Union minister of state for railways Darshana Jardosh.

“The project will connect Bengaluru satellite townships/industrial townships of neighbouring districts such as Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Doddaballapur, and Ramanagara. It will also connect Dobbaspet mega industrial township, aerospace tech park in north Bengaluru, and multimodal logistics park at Muddalinganahalli,” he said. “Former CM BS Yediyurappa and I had personally appraised the then railway minister Suresh Prabhu of the importance of this rail corridor. Prabhu had informed us a detailed report would be sought from RITES and action taken… However, till now RITES has not asked whether the government is interested in this project as it is beneficial to both railways and Karnataka,” he said.
