BETUL MAY GET A RS 1,500CR PORT

Union minister of shipping, road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has put forward a proposal to the state government to develop a satellite port for Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) at Betul , South Goa. Estimated to cost Rs 1,500 crore, the port would be developed by forming a joint venture company between the state and Union government.

The proposed port will handle bauxite and iron ore and will have the capacity to handle 50 lakh tonnes of bauxite and 10 lakh tonnes of iron ore per year. “For the development of Goa by way of creating more employment potential and for increasing the state’s revenue by enhancing export and import potential, we have submitted the proposal to chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar to develop a satellite port at Betul,” Gadkari said.
