After a difficult time, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) declared that the garment industry was now stable and urged the government to take action to maintain law and order in the industry in order to maintain its competitiveness and spur future expansion.

In addition to calling for the streamlining and expediting of customs and port procedures, the BGMEA has encouraged the government to maintain stable peace and order in the area, especially to prevent needless delays in the loading and unloading of goods at the Chattogram port.

Given the difficulties the industry is now facing, the BGMEA has asked that the disconnection of factory utilities be temporarily suspended for the next three months in order to assist manufacturing. Additionally, the BGMEA voiced worries about pending reforms in the banking sector and urged the government to make sure that these changes don’t have a negative effect on the industry’s commercial activity and production.

In order to create business-friendly policies that are suited to the demands of the sector, the president of the BGMEA also insisted on the creation of a special task group that would include officials from Bangladesh Bank and the National Board of Revenue.

In order for enterprises to continue operating normally in the face of the present energy difficulties, the trade group has urgently called for the approval of gas delivery via cylinders from CNG stations.

In order to allow enterprises to handle waste disposal effectively and sustainably, the BGMEA also called for stricter regulations to guarantee that the disposal of jute and other recyclable waste products is not hampered by outside forces.
