Bihar govt keen to set up a port in Odisha

It was deliberated that some location north of Paradip may be more useful for Bihar to develop the port facility.

Odisha government has reportedly accepted a proposal of the Bihar government for setting up a port facility in Odisha.

Bihar Additional Chief Secretary Brijesh Mehrotra said, “We express our gratitude to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accepting the proposal of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for setting up a port facility in Odisha. ‘’
Mr Mehrotra who led a team said he was impressed with the kind of infrastructure created by the Odisha Government in the industrial estates and the facilitating support provided by the State to the investors.
The team had a discussion with senior officers of the Odisha government at a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra today. Development Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena advised ACS Bihar to assess the requirement of Bihar so that the port facility could be planned accordingly.

The Chief Secretary assured all possible help from the Odisha government as per the existing policies. Commerce and Transport Secretary Madhusudan Padhi said, “Fourteen locations along the Odisha coast have been identified for development of ports through a detailed study”.
Brief details about seven locations to the north and seven locations to the south of Paradip port were discussed. It was deliberated that some location north of Paradip may be more useful for Bihar to develop the port facility.
Official sources said a technical team of Bihar would soon visit Odisha to see all the identified locations and assess the feasibility of developing the port facility as per the requirements of Bihar. After the meeting, Bihar Additional Chief Secretary said, “Today’s meeting was quite fruitful. He thanked the Odisha Government for giving the opportunity”.
Mr Mehrotra said he was impressed with the infrastructural facilities created in the industrial estates and the facilitating support being provided by the Government of Odisha to the investors”. “We would visit the seafood park, electronic and IT park tomorrow to see the models applied there”.
