The Busan Port Authority (BPA) has completed a design feasibility study for the New Port North Container Terminal’s second phase of construction. Experts from many fields analysed design elements and made alternative proposals while considering economic and construction feasibility during the value engineering (VE) assessment, which took place in February. The study was considered extremely necessary since construction projects of such type need the use of specialised techniques such as blasting, bedrock blasting, vertical shaft blasting, and remote-control technology.

Furthermore, under the Korean law a VE is mandatory for designing projects that cost over 10 billion won ($8.1 million), while the container terminal in the Port of Busan was valued at approximately 630 billion won ($513.8 million). The Head of the Construction Division at BPA, Min Byeong-geun, stated: “By using the review system, we will cut costs while establishing high-tech facilities with excellent quality, contributing to BPA to become a leading public company in the construction field.”
