Captain Ram Iyer took over reins as President of Maritime Association of Nationwide Shipping Agencies – India (MANSA) from Mr. Hiren Ved at the 43rd annual general meeting.

Addressing the members, Captain Iyer reiterated his commitment to safeguard the interest of the association and interest of the ship-agency business.

Apart from the endeavour to increase MANSA’s membership, Captain Iyer agenda includes successful implementation of SCMTR (Sea Cargo Manifest & Transport Regulations) and sincerely hopes that CBIC does provide suitable tools in their website for every shipping agency to be able to comply with the stipulations of SCMTR with ease without any complications.

Capt Iyer stressed on the need to travel that extra mile by India’s Shipping & logistics fraternity and facilitate Ease of Doing Business.

He also shared and confirmed that MANSA members are committed to conducting business of ship agency in a transparent & professional manner and ensure continued services to Indian shipping & EXIM community as vessel agents on a 24 x 7 basis despite various challenges.

Sharing his annual review during his tenure, Mr. Hiren Ved, outgoing President, said that a total of 231 issues were raised and addressed of which 170 were related to Mumbai Port Trust and the balance 61 were about JNPT.

Similarly, 63 issues were initiated with various ministries, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and Directorate General of Shipping while 545 advisories were shared with members during the year.  Mr Ved said.

Sharing nostalgic moments as his journey from a club cricketer to being a veteran in the shipping industry, Mr Ved drew a parallel between cricket and successful port operations where the entire team in the supply chain has to perform seamlessly for a successful outcome.
