Cargo transportation at the Pune airport has been stopped by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) since January 1 over certain regulation issues, airport officials have said.

Santosh Dhoke, the director of the Pune airport told TOI that talks were on with the BCAS for the resumption of the service. “Domestic cargo transportation is an important aspect of the Pune airport. Each day a large amount of cargo consisting of different kinds of goods is transported on aircraft. The BCAS has stopped the service since January 1 over some regulation issues. The action is just not for the Pune airport but many other airports as well,” the director said.

The director added that all the airlines had been sensitized to maintain all security norms while transporting cargo. “They have been informed about the same and have been asked to follow all regulations. The transportation should resume within a day or two,” the director added.

The airport is presently recording around 180 to 185 flight movements. The integrated cargo terminal of the airport will be ready by March this year and will be handled by AAICLS, which is the cargo arm of the Airports Authority of India.

In November last year, the total cargo movements at the airport rested at 3,572 metric tonnes against 3,376 metric tonnes in October. The cargo domestic transportation at the airport had grown by more than 40% in 2022 compared to 2021. International cargo transportation however remains a concern still.
