On 23 July 2018, Chennai International Terminals Private Limited (“CITPL”), owned and managed by PSA International, hosted celebrations in Chennai for staff, stakeholders and the trade to mark PSA’s 20th year in India.
CITPL is PSA’s second terminal investment in India. The license agreement with Chennai Port Trust was signed on 3 March 2007 and operations started on 4 July 2009. CITPL has handled over 5.75 million twenty-foot equivalent units (“TEUs”) to date and achieved its highest annual throughout of 904,609 TEUs in 2017. The terminal has also won the “Container Handling Terminal of the Year” award three times in 2013, 2017 and 2018.
A staff event was held in the terminal; besides viewing the video message from PSA’s Group CEO Mr Tan Chong Meng, all CITPL departments put on spirited performances and entertainment to make the event a successful and entertaining one.
In the evening, a trade meet organized by CITPL was attended by officials from Chennai Customs, Chennai Port Trust as well as shipping lines, CONCOR and trade bodies.
Mr Ajit Kumar, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Chennai addressed the gathering, saluting PSA for its achievements. Mr Kumar also presented the distinctive initiatives by Chennai customs to enable transhipment and ease of doing business for the trade.
Mr Raveendran, Chairman of Chennai Port Trust congratulated PSA for its 20th Year in India, conveying his appreciation of CITPL’s splendid volume performance over the year 2017-18 and wishing them further success in future.
As part of the terminal’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program, CITPL has constructed a new toilet facility for “Sadhana Clarke School” for hearing-impaired and intellectually-disabled children, which is located in Kelambakkam at the outskirts of Chennai. CITPL staff had also participated in some of the final construction work and served lunch for the staff and children in the school. The newly constructed toilet facility will prepare staff and children for the Monsoons.
