Central Railway transports 100,000 tonnes of onions to Bangladesh

July 14, 2020: The Central Railway (CR) transported 100,000 tonnes of onion in 43 freight trains to Bangladesh during May, June and first half of July. This export of onions has helped farmers ease glut caused due to lockdown. The rakes were transported from Nashik, Kherwadi, Nipad, Lasalgaon and Manmad stations of Bhusawal division of Cetral Railways to Darshana, Rohanpur and Benapole in Bangladesh.

“It all began with first rake to Bangladesh loaded in May 2020 from Lasalgaon to Darshana. in this month 24 freight trains of onions moved to Bangladesh. In June 17 freight trains were dispatched. Out of the 43 freight trains, 12 were loaded from Manmad, 11 from Niphad, 8 from Kherwadi and 7 from Nashik.
