The primary seaport in the nation, Chattogram Port, reported handling more containers of foreign freight in October 2024 than in September.

However, the handling of export items fell by 13%, while the handling of imported goods in containers climbed.

Chittagong Port reports that the handling of import cargo containers increased to 120,225 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a 1.823 TEU (2.34%) rise. On the other side, export container handling decreased by 13%, from 75,603 TEUs in September to 66,932 TEUs.

According to traders, the nation’s precarious situation, violence, and political upheavals have hurt the apparel business. Consequently, exports have declined. Christmas Day, the largest Christian holy holiday in Europe and America, is predicted to see a spike in exports over this period. However, it hasn’t gone up in comparison.

Before all kinds of goods exported through Chittagong port are shipped, containers are loaded at 19 private depots. In recent years, depot work has also been declining.
