Chennai Port has achieved another landmark by handling 72,000 tonnes of crude oil in 19 hours on January 2, 2019 from the vessel m.v. SCF URAL (which was carrying 1,44,000 tonnes) through the newly-laid 42″ diameter pipeline from Bharathi Dock (BD-III) to the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) refinery in Manali.

Commissioning of the pipeline by CPCL has increased the average pumping rate to 3,800 tonnes/hr of crude oil as against 2,300 tonnes/hr through the old pipeline of lesser diameter. This significant increase has enhanced the port’s capability and confidence among the trade.

Mr P. Raveendran, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, appreciated CPCL for the 42″ pipeline project and expressed the hope that it will cut down handling cost and time.
