A detailed report on two important projects — multimodal transport hub and multimodal logistics hub — proposed in the city was presented to the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra during a review meeting of projects with Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) and Integrated Industrial Township Greater Noida Limited (IITGNL) on Wednesday.

At the meeting, the chief secretary instructed officials to start work on the two projects early, and GNIDA CEO Surendra Singh informed him that land acquisition is on, and work would begin soon after that.

The multimodal transport hub project includes developing the rail, bus and metro connectivity. Under the project, a rail terminal will come up near Bodaki. Most of the trains going towards the east will run from there. The same will reduce the pressure on the Delhi, New Delhi and Anand Vihar terminals. Those living in and around Greater Noida could get trains for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, etc., from the Bodaki terminal.

An interstate bus terminus has also been approved for the project. Apart from this, a metro station from the depot station to the multimodal transport hub has been sanctioned. Under the project, local buses will also be run for those working in industries in the region.

On the other hand, the logistics hub will solely cater to the needs of industries in Noida, Greater Noida and on Yamuna Authority land by making freight transportation in the region easy. It currently takes four to five days to go to places like Mumbai and Gujarat from the region. But after the hub becomes operational, goods will be able to reach these key cities in one and a half days. The dedicated freight corridor near Dadri would also connect with the hub. Warehouses will also be built as part of the project.

At the meeting, the chief secretary directed officials to build affordable rental housing complexes for workers in the integrated township so that labourers working on the two projects have a roof above their heads at affordable rates.

Later, the CS inaugurated the second plant of the Automatic Waste Collection System, which involves making methane gas from wet waste and generating electricity, at IITGNL. The first plant has already been commissioned. The second plant, built with Rs 54 crore, will segregate the waste and process it.
