China’s containerised exports increases 4.9 per cent in first quarter

China’s containerised exports from its top 45 coastal ports grew 4.9 per cent in the first quarter of 2019 year-on-year to 53.79 million TEUs, the country’s Ministry of Transport informed in a communiqué. The ports handled 19.73 million TEUs in January, 16.63 million TEUs in February and 21.53 million TEUs in March, with the top five ports handling 33.38 million TEUs or 60.3 per cent of the total throughput.

The top 10 ports accounted for 44.55 million TEUs, about 80.4 per cent of the total. The remaining 35 ports accounted for 10.84 million TEUs, 19.6 per cent of the total.

Shanghai again topped the list with a first quarter throughput of 10.42 million TEUs, up 6.9 per cent year-on-year, reports said.
