The Chittagong Port Authority on Wednesday informed that they had completed all the preparations, including land acquisition and design, to start the construction works of the Bay Terminal in Chattogram from January 2023.
CPA chairman rear admiral M Shahjahan disclosed the information at a press conference at Munshi Fazlur Rahman auditorium of Chattogram port on Wednesday noon.
‘A multipurpose terminal will be constructed in the Bay Terminal project. The remaining two terminals will be allotted to foreign companies through Public-Private Partnership,’ the CPA chairman said.
‘Chattogram district administration has given 68 acres of land to the Chattogram port in October 2021 for this project. TK 400 crore was given to the district administration for land acquisition,’ he said.
‘Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Company Ltd.-DY Engineering Company is working jointly for planning of Bay Terminal project and detailed engineering design, drawing and estimation of multipurpose terminal under Chattogram port,’ the CPA chairman said.
‘At present, ships with a maximum draft of 9.5 meters and a maximum length of 190 meters can berth in the jetties of the port in an average of four hours during high tide. However, ships of 200 meters length and 10 meters draft can be accommodated at the bay terminal,’ the CPA chairman said.
The initial cost of the project has been estimated at Tk 21,000 crore, he informed.
CPA board members, secretary Md Omar Faruk, among others, were present at the press conference.
