Goa-based shipbuilder Chowgule and Company Pvt Ltd has launched ‘MV AQUAMAR’, the fourth in a series of twelve advanced electric hybrid propelled ships ordered by Sweden’s AtoB@C Shipping AB.
The first vessel named ‘MV Electramar’ was delivered to the owner on 15 December last year.
In 2021, AtoB@C Shipping AB, the Swedish unit of Finland’s ESL Shipping Ltd, ordered a series of seven ICE Class, energy-efficient, electric hybrid, multipurpose cargo vessels of 5,350 DWT each at Chowgule and Company for about 70 million Euros ($82 million).
In 2022, AtoB@C Shipping exercised the option to build five additional electric hybrid vessels at the Indian yard.
The electric hybrid ships are being constructed at Chowgule and Company’s Loutulim shipyard, which is emerging as a centre for innovation and sustainability.
The launch of ‘MV AQUAMAR’ on 28 April signifies another milestone in its commitment to quality and innovation, Chowgule and Company said.
The vessel combines cutting-edge technology with eco-friendly features, ensuring efficient and sustainable shipping operations, the shipbuilder added.
