Coal imports at Major Ports down

Steam and thermal coal imports fell by 17.37 per cent at the Major Ports to 29.82 million tonnes (mt) during April-July 2017-18 from 36.09 mt in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, according to data from Indian Ports Association (IPA).

Coking coal handling, too, declined by 4.45 per cent to 16.51 mt, the data showed.

The government had recently announced that India has moved from a situation of coal scarcity to coal surplus, as per reports.
