Cochin Shipyard to develop shipbuilding ecosystem in Tanzania

Cochin Shipyard, India’s biggest shipbuilder by dock capacity and Marine Services company had signed a memorandum of understanding last October when Samia Suluhu Hassan, President, United Republic of Tanzania, visited India.

Professor Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa, Minister of Transport, United Republic of Tanzania, visited Cochin shipyard few days back looking for a possible collaboration for developing shipbuilding ecosystem in the African nation. As the negotiations proceeded state-run Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Tanzania’s state-owned Marine Services Company Ltd, will now be cooperating and collaborating for developing ship building and ship repair infrastructure in the African nation.

Cochin Shipyard, India’s biggest shipbuilder by dock capacity and Marine Services company had signed a memorandum of understanding last October when Samia Suluhu Hassan, President, United Republic of Tanzania, visited India.

Tanzania’s Transport Minister Professor Mbarawa was accompanied by Dr Kheri Omari Goloka, Minister Counsellor, Tanzania High Commission, Eric Benedict Hamissi, Managing Director, Marine Services Company and team. The Cochin Shipyard team was led by Madhu Nair, Chairman and Managing Director and Sreejith Narayanan, Director (Operations), according to an official statement.

A senior management team from Cochin Shipyard also participated in the deliberations.

The visiting delegation from Tanzania was taken around the facilities for a better understanding of the infrastructure and capabilities of the shipyard. The visiting delegation is also expected to tour the newly opened International Ship Repair Facility at Willingdon Island.
