Colombo Dockyard recently repaired the Singapore-flagged container vessel Lobivia, which had sustained damage after being struck while navigating the Gulf of Aden. After the shipyard despatched a specialised team to inspect the vessel to determine the required repairs, it was possible to demonstrate that work could be completed without drydocking, saving a significant amount of time.

The scope of work carried out by Colombo Dockyard included repairs to the damaged hatch covers and the vessel’s accommodation areas, which were refurbished with new ceiling and wall panels as well as new furniture and then repainted.

In addition to the hatch cover repairs and accommodation refurbishment, the shipyard carried out extensive work on several other areas of the vessel. The cargo crane required steel renewal for the damaged jib, repairs to the cabin doors, and restoration of electrical cabling. Damage to the cargo holds and fuel tanks was also addressed through structural repairs. Furthermore, extensive piping and railing repairs were completed to restore the vessel’s operational safety and compliance with international maritime standards.
