Colombo Port’s Western Terminal to begin operations on Aug 26

The Deputy Minister stated that the Western Terminal could handle a capacity of 2.7 million TEUs annually within a year of operation.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation says that operations at the Western Terminal of the Colombo Port are set to begin on the 26th August. A cargo transport vessel is expected to arrive at the terminal said Deputy Minister Ruwan Kodituwakku. The project is being implemented by the Adani Group. The Deputy Minister stated that the Western Terminal could handle a capacity of 2.7 million TEUs annually within a year of operation.

Meanwhile, operations at the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port are planned to begin in July. The annual cargo handling capacity of the terminal, constructed using funds from the Ports Authority, is 3 million TEUs.
