The Container Corporation of India (Concor) has been urged by Union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to expand its terminal network to 100, double its revenue to Rs 18,000 crore, and shift.
Currently operating 66 terminals, Concor had earlier announced plans to increase this number to 80 by 2028, as per chairman and MD Sanjay Swarup. However, Vaishnaw has now pushed for a more ambitious 100-terminal goal, assuring that the Railway Board will provide the necessary land.
The minister set an ambitious target for Concor, asking the company to double its revenue from Rs 9,000 crore to Rs 18,000 crore. He also emphasised the need for a customer-first mindset, moving beyond rail-focused operations to offering end-to-end logistics solutions.
With the government’s focus on enhancing rail freight efficiency and reducing logistics costs, Concor’s expansion aligns with India’s broader goal of shifting more cargo transport to railways. This move is expected to benefit exporters, manufacturers, and logistics firms, improving supply chain efficiency across sectors.
Concor’s aggressive growth plans, backed by government support, are set to play a key role in strengthening India’s multimodal logistics sector. As rail freight gains momentum, Concor’s expansion in terminals and services could significantly contribute to the country’s economic and industrial growth.
