Construction of coastal highway and rail projects in Odisha

Work on two major national highways in Odisha – the coastal highway and the Capital region ring road will begin soon.

Construction work has been expedited on the 413km long coastal highway at a cost of Rs.23,882 Cr. The highway consists of three sections – from Rameswar to Ratanpur, Ratanpur to Digha and Jamujhadi to Dhamra.

Under the Bharatmala programme, work on the 111km long ring road project at a cost of Rs.6092 Cr is under progress. The six lane highway connects Khurda, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The Odisha government has also proposed 11 new railway lines to the central government including Puri-Konark, Buramara-Chakulia, Jajpur Keonjhar Road-Dhamra Port, Talcher-Gopalpur, Bargarh-Nuapada via Padampur, Badampahar-Keonjhar, Junagarh-Nabarangpur-Ambaguda, Raja Athagarh-Tapang bypassing Bhubaneswar, Paradip-Dhamra, Gopalpur-Singapur Road and Champua-Dhamra via Anandpur. The Indian Railways has currently approved two of these projects – Puri-Konark project and Jaleswar-Chandaneswar new line.
