Successful business enterprises today are known to do things differently. Organisations with a DNA to experiment and explore are much more likely to outperform peers that continue to do today what served them best yesterday. It is a common practice for the shipping lines and freight forwarders to organise trade parties to express gratitude to their customers for their support. Under Mr Darshan Ghodawat, the Founder and Managing Director of Ava Global, a fast-growing integrated logistics company, the key question applied was—much of what we do today, how can we do that differently? For any successful professional today, health and spending time with family are two areas we always hope we can do better. And hence, the idea of involving the shipping fraternity along with their families led to the creation of a cricket carnival of sorts.
So there it is. AVA Global Logistics is organising the “AVA Premier League”, to be played at Police Gymkhana, Marine Drive on the April 14-15, 2018. A total of 16 teams will explore their planning, strategising and execution skills as they battle each other to win the inaugural edition of the league. With teams necessarily comprising employees across all levels of management, this provides an excellent opportunity for internal teams to bond outside work.
And to facilitate this, rules have been drafted accordingly—for example, teams must have a senior and junior team member at the crease at the same time. What better way to create camaraderie between a senior and junior, which may otherwise be hampered in a strict corporate setting. Considering it is a weekend, participants have been encouraged to call their families to the ground to make this a great family affair to remember. Fun, frolic and bonding aside, there is a competitive element to the league and the teams will definitely put their best foot forward. There will be prizes for the winner, runners-up and the individual performers.
Keeping in tradition with Ava Global’s focus on hospitality, breakfast, lunch and dinner has been meticulously planned for both days. The bar opens at noon on both days. The event will be organised in the beautiful environs of Police Gymkhana. Those on the ground will be showing their sportsman spirit and their supporters can show their spirit over spirit in the cool atmosphere.

There has been an overwhelming response from the shipping lines, traders and NVOCCs. Unfortunately, the participating teams had to be limited to 16 only considering the paucity of time. This is an inaugural event and Ava Global hopes to grow it for larger participation in subsequent editions.
There is already a sense of excitement amongst the participating members and it will be interesting to see how the participating teams/organisations display their skills on the cricket ground, which they have so efficiently and successfully shown in the professional arena.
