CSL builds first two Hybrid Electric Catamarans

Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Ltd (HCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited has launched the first two Hybrid Electric Catamarans out of a batch of six hybrid electric catamarans built for the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Govt. of India.

The vessels, designed to accommodate 50 people, were launched by Smt. Anjana KR (Director, Hooghly CSL & CGM-Design, CSL) in the presence of Sanil Peter, Managing Director, Hooghly CSL and senior officials of IWAI, IRS and Hooghly CSL. These state-of-the-art vessels, built with a focus on reducing tailpipe emissions, are in line with India’s commitment to sustainability.

The project aims to promote eco-friendly travel practices and enhance the experience of India’s scenic waterways. The initiative marks a major step towards greener and more efficient inland waterway transport in India.
