The Customs house will boost exports because it will help save time and cost.
Currently, the Customs house at Surat Hira Bourse (SHB) at Katargam handles the major chunk of export/import in diamonds, around 100 parcels are handled for export and 70 parcels for import. It is likely that a sizeable process of SHB will shift to the SDB customs house.
At present, of the total diamonds being exported from Surat, less than 10% get cleared from the city customs office, while the rest is cleared from Mumbai customs. That takes one day time and increases the cost of handling.
