Cyclone Sitrang: Chittagong port operation suspended

All operations at Chittagong Port have been suspended, said Md Omar Faruq, secretary of Chittagong Port Authority. He said a special caution alert-3 has been already issued in Chittagong port.

The port has taken all necessary preparations to deal with the cyclone, says the port official.

As Cyclone Sitrang approaches the shore at high speed, the Directorate of Meteorology has issued Distress Signal No 6 to the Chittagong port.

As a result, all operations at Chittagong Port have been suspended, said Md Omar Faruq, secretary of Chittagong Port Authority. He said a special caution alert-3 has been already issued in Chittagong port. The port has taken all necessary preparations to deal with the cyclone. Furthermore, all types of operations have been suspended in Chittagong port, he added. Md Omar Faruq said vessels at the outer anchorage have been directed to relocate to a secure harbour.
