The Deendayal Port Trust (DPT) has announced plans to develop two more oil jetties to meet the import requirements of the country. The port is currently handling six oil jetties with a capacity of 12 Million Metric Tonnes per Anum (MMTPA). Both the jetties will handle large vessels of size 65000 DWT and 80,000 DWT respectively, with a depth of 13 metres. It will also enhance the port’s capacity to 5.5MMTPA and will reduce the vessels waiting period. According to the port authority jetty no. 7 will be operational by September and jetty no. 8 will be operational by April next year. Deendayal Port is the largest liquid bulk cargo handling port in the country and handles cargoes like petroleum products, petrochemicals, acids, liquefied gases and vegetable oils. SK Mehta, Chairman of the port said, “The major port is poised to become the liquid cargo hub of not only India but Southeast Asia. To accommodate the growing demand the port is adding the jetties 7 and 8 at a cost of Rs.88Cr and 191Cr, respectively. The port has also started developing jetties 9 and 11 under PPP mode.
