Over 32 international companies have applied to India’s incentive program to manufacture laptops.
Companies like Dell, Lenovo, and others are participating in India’s production-linked incentive (PLI) program.
The government will allow a three-month transition period for importers to clear their shipments without a license.
Following the import ban on laptops, over 32 international companies have applied to India’s incentive program to make laptops, tablets and servers in the country, according to Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday. This comes shortly after the government revealed new restrictions on importing laptops. To recall, the Indian government restricted imports of products under HSN code 8741, which mainly covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, and ultra-small computers. The decision was announced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and approved by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry earlier this week.
