Developing inland waterways in northeast

The 23km stretch from Karnaphuli to Tuichawing River is being developed for movement of cargo, for which Rs. 23 Cr have been sanctioned.

Mizoram will play a key role in developing inland waterways in northeast, said Minister for Shipping, Sarbananda Sonowal. The 23km stretch from Karnaphuli to Tuichawing River is being developed for movement of cargo, for which Rs. 23 Cr have been sanctioned. Hydrographical survey and techno-economic feasibility study over a stretch of 87km between River Tiawng in Mizoram and Gharmura in Assam has been accomplished. Similar studies will also be conducted on Chhimtuipui River from Tupui D to Lomasu.
