Increase in number of vessels handled, carne moves per hour and enhanced terminal operating system

Global trade enabler DP World operated International Container Transshipment Terminal in the first six months of 2016 witnessed 29% growth by handling more than 200,000 TEUs from 350+ vessels which called at the terminal from January – June 2016. Gantry crane moves per hour improved to +30 moves per hour per crane.

These figures show that the facilities at the terminal have been increasingly appreciated and used by both mainline carriers and feeder services. All services, particularly those connecting the Far East, Middle East and Europe, have been doing very well.

Also, in order to facilitate ease of doing business, the terminal has introduced an intelligent Terminal Operating System – ZODIAC. The TOS developed by DP World is identified as one of the most technically advanced operating systems to be highly beneficial to the customers and trade. ZODIAC covers real-time execution with planned resources in effective manner with smart controls. It also supports high level of automation; it provides an integrated platform of Gate-Yard-Rail-Vessel movement.

Mr. Jibu Kurien Itty, CEO, DP World Cochin said “With the new TOS, we are looking at further increase in productivity along with meeting customer specific needs and demands. We have facilitated the trade by redefining their supply chain, ensuring less cost, faster transit times and best-in-class customer service. We ensured better co-ordination with trade bodies in all aspects of shipping, including operations, documentation, etc. and that has helped in gaining and maintaining the momentum. In addition, we have been working towards improving connectivity to Bangalore and the surrounding hinterland in Karnataka state.”
