DP World, an integral part of the supply chain has envisioned Intermodal services as a key to the infrastructural constraints of the nation. Amplifying its outside the Gate services, CRRS administers safer movement of containers by avoiding damages or pilferages.
The Category 1 licence granted by the Indian Railways enables DP World to run CRRS on all routes in India for a period of 20 years (from any port in India to the Hinterland ICDs). This ensures fastest possible access to hinterland, significantly reducing the transit time for moving cargo to and from ICDs.
CRRS increases the weight carrying capacity of 61 MT Gross for rail wagon as compared to 26 – 33 MT for trailers by road. No deferrals are faced in comparison to road transport where the trailers are subjected to costs at various check points en-route. Benefitting the trade, CRRS also minimizes the choke-points which hamper the supply chain. Adding to the advantage, this service enables running of double stack trains and charts out synchronized Ship and Train Schedule. Trucking solutions have also been introduced to enable movement of cargo to and from ICDs to customer’s premises.
Through CRRS, DP World strengthened direct connectivity along the route of the busiest ports of India including Nhava Sheva to Ludhiana, Faridabad and Loni, Mundra to Ludhiana and Loni, and Pipavav to Ludhiana. New routes to be soon added: Nhava Sheva to Kanpur, Indore and Wardha, and Chennai – Bangalore – Kochi.
Mr. Anil Singh, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World Subcontinent said, “At DP World, we aspire to provide futuristic solutions to the trade. The CRRS services thereby presents commitment to facilitating an ease of doing business and bringing ships as close to the customers as possible. It also operates on eco-friendly and energy efficient modes of transport which warrant reduction in costs through railroads and further easing congestions at Port and National Highways. We strongly believe in evolving with a larger integrated world and thus envision future possibilities basis the emerging difficulties.”
CRRS was launched in October 2007, aided by planning of the entire supply chain and ensured that scope of these services are not limited to the shipping lines/vessel owners but instead offers greater solutions to the consignees, shippers and manufacturers at large. Currently, CRRS owns 315 BLC Wagons which form Seven Rakes each of 45 wagons. Additionally, CRRS facilitates movement of 90 and 180 container TEU per train through selected routes resulting in saving time.
