With the arrival of the MSC Sena, DP World has officially opened the first all-electric berth in history at London Gateway.
The ship was serviced by an all-electric fleet that included automated stacking cranes, straddle carriers, and four of the biggest dock cranes in Europe.
In addition to increasing port capacity by more than a third and increasing supply chain efficiency through better connectivity and quicker turnaround times, the new 430-meter berth seeks to establish a global standard for low-carbon shipping infrastructure.
Within five years, DP World wants London Gateway to be the biggest container port in the UK in terms of trade volume.
With multimodal linkages to both domestic and international transportation networks, the London Gateway Logistics Park, a 9.25 million square foot facility, is enhanced by the new berth.
This logistics park, which is already partially constructed, offers a large amount of storage space and strengthens DP World’s integrated UK offering, which includes ports in Southampton and London Gateway as well as forwarding, logistics, and European transport capabilities. In order to increase its cargo capacity and better meet customer requests, DP World purchased 47,000 TEUs last month.
