Global trade enabler DP World operated Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal and Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal, have seamlessly adapted customs and Government proposed Direct Port Delivery (DPD) model as part of their ease of doing business initiatives. Efficiency in operations has led to a quantum increase in Direct Port Delivery volume by more than 130% in 2017.
This has come in wake of DP World’s cooperation with the Government and port authorities to facilitate ease of doing business in the country, and improve India’s overall rank in the Ease of Doing Business index.
The process created and followed at DP World Nhava Sheva has enabled prompt and timely delivery of containers directly to the customers. Further reducing inventory cost and saving in transportation time from the Terminal to the Customs-bonded warehouses.
DPD means direct delivery of import containers to pre-approved clients from the port itself. DP World Nhava Sheva has setup a 24-hour Customer Service back-up team exclusively for DPD customers. Furthermore, DPD customers have been allotted a separate yard which can also be used as storage point resulting in reducing the warehousing costs for the customers. With DPD, there have been several direct benefits to importers.
Mr. Ravinder Johal, CEO of DP World Nhava Sheva said, “At DP World, we strive to support Government initiatives that support India’s growth. We have been working closely with Customs for effective implementation of DPD. This protocol has been executed as effortlessly and proficiently as possible in order to add value to the supply chain and its stakeholders. The results of this have been witnessed in the rapid growth in volume and increase in customers opting for DPD at our terminals. We have given comfort to our Customers for a seamless DPD experience.”
