[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s No. 1 container port, has achieved an 8-fold rise in Direct Port Delivery (DPD) registrations in January 2017, with 483 importers registering as against 60 in December 2016. With this spike, the total DPD registrations have increased to 543, highlighted a release. Besides, JN Port handled a total of 67,098 TEUs under DPD from April 2016 to January 2017, a growth of 19 per cent over the same period last year.
JNPT has initiated a series of measures in the last two months for expanding the base of DPD clients. DPD is one of the key initiatives for the benefit of ex-im trade, whereby importers can get direct delivery of their consignments at their destination and save on time and cost to a large extent. DPD, one of the key initiatives under ‘Ease of Doing Business’, has been encouraged and promoted by the government of India to motivate as many importers to avail of the facility. In December 2016, JNPT and Jawahar Customs had organised a 3-day intensive drive (‘Registration Mela’) to extend DPD facilities to all importers who have been granted ACP (Accredited Client Program) status.

Performance
Performance-wise, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT), the terminal owned by JN Port, handled 1,32,772 TEUs in January 2017, up 4.32 per cent over the same month last year. For the first ten months of 2016-17 (April-January), JNPCT handled a total of 1.30 million TEUs, a growth of 10.36 per cent over the same period of 2015-16. JN Port as a whole handled 3,69,781 TEUs in January 2017.
In addition, the inter-terminal transfer of tractor-trailers, for the same month, has helped in transferring 12,492 trucks with completion of 15,568 transactions. A total of 3,34,486 trucks have availed this facility by completing 4,14,387 transactions since its commencement in February 2015, resulting in significant load reduction at the terminal gates and on the Port roads by more than 10 per cent, besides saving fuel cost for the exim trade.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
