The Dredging Corporation will build the first locally made dredger. Funding for the project has been arranged through a €44 million soft loan from the Netherlands and by sale of debentures to Cochin Shipyard Ltd. The shipyard will construct the dredger. The four state owned ports that own the Dredging Corporation of India will also contribute for development of the dredger. The construction of the trailing suction hopper dredger, having a hopper capacity of 12,000 cubic meters will cost €89.4 million. The dredger will be named “DCI Dredge Brahmaputra,” which will also be India’s largest will be constructed at the Cochin Shipyard, with technology and design support from Royal IHC – World’s largest dredger builder based in the Netherlands.
The balance dredger cost of €45 million will be funded through sale of 10 year debentures by DCI to Cochin Shipyard and contributions from Visakhapatnam port, Paradip port, Jawaharlal Nehru port and Deendayal Port Authorities.
