With the commissioning of this section, 80% of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor has become operational. The trial run bears significance as now the freight trains will start running at the entire stretch of 1,070 km from Dadri to Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya (PDDU) Junction.
Trial run would be followed by a safety inspection in June and then a green signal for regular operations in the stretch would be given. Now the 422 km section route of Prayagraj unit and 1,070 km track section of EDFC have become operational. EDFC is the dedicated freight corridor which runs from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal, a distance of 1,875 km.
The maximum part of the corridor passes through Uttar Pradesh as the goods trains are running from New Dadri to New Dagmagpur station in the corridor. The section of Prayagraj unit is from New Bhaupur to New DDU which is 422 kms.
“Today 58 wagons of the goods train, loaded with coal were operated from New Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction to New Dagmagpur on the newly constructed double rail line track which is 39 km distance. Along with this, a goods train with 42 loaded wagons of wheat was operated to NDDU Junction”, informed Chief General Manager (East) Omprakash.
Omprakash further informed that in the financial year 2022-23, the work done under EDFC included New Ruma to New Sujatpur (February 22) and Chunar to Cheoki (September 20) and New Karchana to New Iradatganj (November 29) and New Karchana to New Sujatpur (December 31), New Kanpur to New Bhimsen (October 21) and New Bhimsen to New Bhaupur and likewise.
The Chief General Manager also informed that with the opening of this section, goods trains will now run from New Bhaupur to Son Nagar which means that the connectivity of trains will be from Bihar (Son Nagar) to Sanand in Gujarat.
