Eicher Trucks and Buses on February 3 said it has entered the small commercial vehicle (SCV) segment with the global unveiling of its innovative ‘EV-First Eicher Truck’ at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024.
The vehicle, part of the “Pro Business Pro Planet range”, spanning from 2T to 3.5T Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), will redefine city and near-city distribution, the company said in a media release.
“As India grows in the Amrit Kaal, the SCV segment will be driven by rapid urbanization, booming e-commerce, increased personal consumption, and the rise of the hub-and-spoke distribution,” said Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO of VE Commercial Vehicles, the parent entity of Eicher Trucks.
Customer trials in April 2024, rollout in Q1 2025
Eicher’s SCV vehicle is set to undergo customer trials starting April 2024, with the commercial rollout anticipated in the first quarter of 2025. Eicher said it will introduce the electric variant first and progressively expand its offerings to include clean Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and diesel variants.
The product has been designed and developed in India, and manufacturing will take place at the state-of-the-art facility in Bhopal, the company said.
