Fertilizer imports into Nepal from Bangladesh rise

A consignment of 32 thousand 500 metric tonnes of Urea fertilizer procured from Bangladesh has arrived here.

The fertilizer was purchased through the Government-to-Government modality of agreement. This quantity of the fertilizer has been received at the Agriculture Inputs Company Limited Province Office, Birgunj.

As per the G2G agreement, the Bangladesh government will supply 50 thousand metric tonnes of Urea fertilizer to Nepal.

It is said the remaining 17 thousand 500 metric tonnes fertilizer is in the process of transportation, Manager of the Limited’s Province Office, Gorakh Nath KC said. The remaining consignment will be brought to the dry port at Sirsiya of Birgunj via train from the Kolkata port in India.

Manager KC said that although the entire consignment should have arrived here from Bangladesh by this time, it was delayed due to the adverse situation due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
According to him, the Government of Nepal and the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka are effortful in the supply of the remaining fertilizer from Bangladesh.
