Former chairman and managing director of Shipping Corporation of India, PK Srivastava was felicitated with the R. S. Cooper Life Time Achievement Award at the 41st annual general meeting of Maritime Association of Nationwide Shipping Agencies – India by Mumbai Port Chairman Sanjay Bhatia.
Srivastava was the youngest and the longest serving chairman of Indian government owned – Shipping Corporation of India and served under four cabinet ministers with shipping as their portfolio.
Speaking on the occasion, Srivastava said, “In my professional life, I learnt a lot from my peers who have opposed me rather than who supported me as it gave me a chance to improve upon myself each passing day.”
He also remembered his mentor and father-in-law C P Srivastava, who was the first chief executive of the Shipping Corporation of India and in 1974 was elected to serve as the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), serving successive four-year terms as Secretary-General from 1974 to 1989.
The annual general meeting also felicitated Mukesh Oza, Group President & CEO of Samsara Group with Past Presidents’ Award for the Maritime Personality of the Year for exemplary contribution to the Shipping and Logistics industry.
Former MANSA President Captain Vivek Anand introduced Mukesh Oza to the august gathering before his felicitation and termed his four decades of service to maritime industry as a shining example of true employee entrepreneur, who created success stories not only in India but globally too.
Welcoming dignitaries and guests at the meeting that was followed by MANSA Star awards in its 5th year, Captain Amit Wason, President, MANSA said, “The annual awards event is a way to inculcate competitive spirit and recognize the shining stars for their contribution across various level of management that keep our trade operate seamlessly.”
24 staff members of various ship-agents across eight categories were also felicitated with MANSA Star awards, which was in its 5th year.
